Welcome to the Slash V Ranch
The first model dog I painted was when my friend, Haley Hardin, sent me a Breyer Aussie. I thought it was a pretty unrealistic color so I painted it to a red merle. A friend suggested I try to sell it on Ebay. That was the beginning of a new hobby that went hand in hand with my collection of model horses. From an artist friend in the model horse community, Kris McHugh of KSCULPT, I learned that I could move body parts and do sculpting on both Breyer and resin models and thus make my painted dogs more realistic and unique. (making Border Collies into Aussies is my favorite since there are more nice BC models out there than Aussie ones) As one thing led to another, I was showing my models in online and mail in shows and attending live model horse shows here in Texas using my dogs as "props" in scenes. How much fun when at my very first show I won first place in several classes with dioramas and "arenas" I had made myself! I love the realism you can obtain with models and to have everything as real as possible is my goal. Because my horse collection is all western stock horses, I began painting and customizing both resin cattle and the Breyer cutting and roping calves. I accidentally fell into making rider dolls for sale when I reworked an old Breyer 1980's doll for myself. Because guys dominate the cowhorse and reining in real life, I wanted a rider that looked like the real trainers rather than like a little Barbie doll. Thus my "Horse Trainer dolls" were born. I list dogs/ horses/ cattle/rider dolls on Ebay from time to time and usually wait to list several items at once, so I often have a few finished things available for sale. Feel free to write and see what is in the works and take a look at my "For Sale" page here. I no longer take commissions other than I will do a rider doll with a specified color shirt and chaps. |
